Even a 100 pages book is completed by me in no less than 2 days but today; Don't remember what happend to my energetic mind, I completed 200+ pages book in just 2 hours.

Yes, I was surprised myself. The story line of the book was so interesting that I couldn't resist to take a break and read it at later. Before I boarded the plane, the book was happily wrapped after reading my bag and I was notw wondering I now have only 1 more book to read now and that too about the same pages.

The book I am talking about is The Passengers on the Hankyu Line by Hiro Arikawa and translated by Allison Markin Powell.

All manners of people from every walk of life - Solo passengers, friends, couples, families, work colleagues - traverse the concourse at a brisk pace. But as they cross paths, the contents of each traveller's heart are a mystery known only to themselves.

The book revolves around the stories happening between the stations Takazaruka, Nishinomiya - Kitaguchi and vice versa. Their are 11 protagonists who travels daily between the station of Takazaruka and Nishinomiya - Kitaguchi :

  • Masashi, an office worker

  • Yuki, an office worker

  • Shoko, an office worker

  • Tokie, grandmother of Ami

  • Ami, granddaughter of Tokie

  • Misa, a student at a women's college

  • Katsuya, a college student and Misa's boyfriend

  • Etsuko, a high-school student

  • Keichi, a university student

  • Miho, a university student

  • Yasue, a housewife and mother

They though don't have a direct relations with each other, what brings together them is the Rail Line and the stories during their journey in the train.

A cosy Japanese read, great recommendation for a light reader specifically.

I have yet to read any Japanese author, so this goes on my list. It sounds like a fun read, stories from the train.

Reading and writing take time. I like the energy with which you have reviewed the book. I feel I too should read the stories of 11 characters in this book. Your writing has made me explore what happened in that rail line. Good post. Great Job.
